Always through-bolt stanchions, cleats, and other loaded fittings using backing plates beneath the deck on the Tweed Coast. Screws pull out under load, especially in cored decks. Through-bolting with washers and backing plates distributes loads properly and prevents deck damage. Use marine sealant on all fastener holes to prevent water intrusion into deck cores.
