How do I choose the right boat seat and pedestal?
Measure before you buy. Check the bolt pattern on the existing base, the height you need from the deck to the seat pan, and whether the seat has to fold or slide out of the way when the boat is covered. A helm seat wants a fixed or adjustable pedestal at a height that lets you steer standing or seated; a casting or fishing seat is better low and on a swivel. Padded upholstery is more comfortable, but a moulded seat with drainage suits an open boat that lives on a trailer.
