Description

The Vetus STE5512D is a retractable swing thruster delivering 55 kgf (550 N) of thrust at 12V DC, designed for power and sail boats from 30 to 60 feet. Unlike a conventional tunnel thruster, the swing mechanism allows installation in shallow-draft vessels, sailboats with cutaway forefeet, and raised sterns where a tunnel is not possible.

The thruster deploys and retracts automatically when the control panel is activated or deactivated — no separate controls required. It also retracts automatically after 15 minutes of inactivity. The hull bottom plate is attached directly to the propeller duct and swings in and out with the thruster, eliminating the need for a separate opening mechanism. When retracted, drag is slightly less than a standard tunnel thruster.

Digital V-CAN (Vetus CANbus) signals connect the thruster and control panels, enabling future integration into boat-wide electronic systems. The fiberglass housing and electronic control mechanism are included in the base package.
